BOULDER ROUBAIX
Lloyd Sutton Reporting

What better way to start off the weekend than with a nice helmet jarring, dirt road, spring classic?  Nearly fifty juniors woke hours earlier than the usual teenager on a Saturday morning to challenge the Boulder Roubaix and test their luck at this three quarter dirt course.  The clear blue skies made for ideal racing conditions but the early morning chill left the racers at the start line debating whether or not to shed their leg warmers.  The 15-16 and 17-18 year olds set out first with over-anxious riders attacking off the front at every hesitation in the pace.  Although, no break was able to gain enough time to stay away despite the many efforts.  It was unclear who would be taking the victory but with Amar Mannina (Rocky Mounts) leading through the hillier sections it was obvious he would place well.  It came to Matthew Beaton and Mannina sprinting it out for first with Beaton taking the win and Patrick Stockton following the two in third place for the 17-18 division.  Not far behind, the 15-16 year olds finished with Jamie Sullivan (Echelon Spokes and Slopes) leading the way with Danny Hiller (TIAA-CREF) and Patten Brae finishing second and third respectively.  Several minutes after the 15-18 start, the 13-14 year olds set out with the 8-12 year olds following right behind.  Yannick Eckmann finished strong in first place ahead of the two Einstein teammates Brandon Stockton and John Noonan taking second and third.  In the 10-12 year olds we found Michael Dessau in first place with Brady Barker and Emily Stockton finishing out the top three.  Then with the 8-9 year olds finishing last we had Cade Bickmore (Adrenaline Promotions) in first place, Mina Anderberg (Mudskipper) in second, and Sarah Rubburto in third.  Despite the bumpy dirt roads and the pickup truck that plowed its way through the pack, the group managed to keep the rubber down and come through injury free with another great day of racing under their belts.  Now it’s time to get those wheels back in true and get ready for another weekend of racing at the Haystack Mountain time trial.
